Rise to the Top

Meet "Phil".

At 9, he was crowned the youngest champion in Tournament history.  Officials recently traveled to Williamsport, PA to talk with Phil over his morning recess as part of the Henderson NCAA Tournament’s efforts to get to know its participants better.  Never one to shy away from controversy – he called out Bindi Irwin for giving pre-teens a “bad name everywhere” – Phil shared insights into his tournament philosophy.  Some highlights:

Age:  10

Years Participating in Henderson NCAA Tournament: since inception

Has a soft spot for: Power Rangers and Nintendo

Cries: never

Favorite Team: whoever is playing Duke

Fans will remember: Calling out ’06 winner Greg Mahon as “last year’s news” while being interviewed on The Today Show

Notable: on 7-10 matchups, selects winner based on team mascot fur-to-snout ratio

Quotable: “Don’t listen to your parents – there is a future for you in sports wagering”
